Hello! It's been a week since the official launch of Substrate, an exciting new AI platform that offers API endpoints for task-specific optimized models. I was eager to test this product and share my experience.

Getting Started with Substrate

Substrate offers a Starter subscription, providing free credits ($40.00 in my case). With just $0.12 spent on Language and Image models, I was impressed by how easy it was to start. All you need is to install the Substrate Python library and obtain an API key.

Documentation and Use Cases

Substrate provides detailed documentation and invaluable scenarios for using the platform for tasks like extracting and summarizing websites, reimagining rooms, and transcribing audio & video. These guides made it easy to create an application that parsed my portfolio website, generating a concise description for each project, my role, and the technologies used. The result was a summarized markdown document with links to project pages, ready for use on platforms like Upwork.

"Include a full description, role, and skills. Categorize the projects into a few groups based on the technologies used."

Advanced Capabilities

I then explored summarizing my work experience and creating a description of my appearance based on project analysis.

This generated a profile summary and even an image of a person, showcasing Substrate's versatility.

Substrate's Unique Offering

Substrate is designed for building large, multi-step AI workloads. It provides an elegant abstraction layer, connecting nodes from a curated library that includes optimized ML models, file and vector storage, a code interpreter, and logical control flow. This setup eliminates the need for complex tooling and infrastructure, enabling the creation of sophisticated AI systems with ease.

Company Background

Founded by Rob Cheung and Ben Guo, Substrate boasts a team with experience from companies like Stripe, Google, and Substack. This expertise has shaped Substrate into a robust platform, battle-tested by customers like Substack before its public launch.

Conclusion

Substrate's release marks a significant step forward in AI application development. With its user-friendly interface, detailed documentation, and powerful capabilities, it simplifies the creation of complex AI systems.

Let me know what you would like to build using the Substrate AI application. I would be happy to help you and share all the details.
